A hurricane, fire, or flood can destroy your home or business and make it hard to prove what you owned. Without proof, your insurance payments might take a long time or be denied.
A Matterport 3D Scan creates a detailed, time-stamped record of your property. This helps you get paid faster and rebuild sooner.
A Matterport 3D scan is a comprehensive digital replica of a property, generated using a laser-guided camera. It provides outstanding clarity, capturing every angle and detail of the property, including its contents and dimensions. The time needed to thoroughly scan a home’s interior varies based on size and shape. For an average 2,000-square-foot home, the process typically takes about one and a half hours, possibly extending to two hours when including the exteriors.
First, it’s important to remember that your home isn’t being prepared for sale, so there’s no need to stress about getting it market-ready.
Here are some tips to help with the photography process:
1. **Clear Pathways**: Ensure pathways are clear so the photographer can move easily from room to room.
2. **Open Storage Areas**: Open all storage rooms and closets.
3. **Showcase Valuables**: If you have valuable furniture, electronics, or other items, arrange them in a way that makes them visible. Notify the photographer about these items so they can position the camera accordingly.
4. **Garage Preparation**: Clear a pathway in the garage to allow visibility of all four walls.
5. **Exterior Check**: Prepare the exterior of your home so that the camera can capture the condition of the walls, pool, air conditioning unit, and pool pump.
6. **Documentation**: Create a Word document or Excel sheet listing the names and serial numbers of electronics and other items. The photographer will upload this information to the 3D scan and the external console if purchased.
Following these steps can help ensure a smooth and effective photography session.
If the owner chooses to have the roof photographed, the photographer will use a drone to capture images from all four quadrants: north, south, east, and west. The process is only feasible if no trees obstruct the drone’s flight path. No ladders or climbing onto roofs are permitted. The photographer will include photos of the roof in the 3D scan.
There is no need to examine the exterior of a home or business if you do not own or are not responsible for that property, such as in the case of condominiums, townhouses, or strip malls. However, if you are responsible for the property, your insurance company will want to evaluate the quality of the walls and surrounding areas. An exterior assessment will reveal everything that is visible and unobstructed.
The interior encompasses all living space beneath the roof, including the garage. The square footage is obtained from the county’s property appraiser’s office website.
Exterior refers to all outside property beyond the living space, including patios, pools, gardens, and front and back yards.
Request your insurance company to cover the cost of Matterport. However, each insurance provider has different rules regarding payouts for preventive measures. Our recommendation is to pay the fee upfront and then submit for reimbursement. At least, you will have documentation of your home.
A four-point inspection is great. It certifies that you have running water, wind mitigation, a sound roof, and an AC/Heating system, but it does not account for your valuable contents.
