Creating Matterport 3D Models

Using the industry-leading Matterport Pro 3 camera, a 3D digital twin of a house or building provides greater clarity for inspections and reports than traditional photos and videos because the 3D model covers every angle. Other methods usually miss important details, lack clarity, and have no measurements or timestamps.

The laser-guided sensors in the Pro 3 provide a 360-degree view at each scan point. Document the existing conditions of your home with high-quality detail before a disaster happens. Matterport allows the labeling of individual assets within the module as well as attaching photos and serial numbers.

Embracing Matterport technology transforms your approach to home safety, turning chaos into control. By investing in this cutting-edge solution, you are taking proactive measures to protect your most valuable asset and ensure peace of mind in the face of uncertainty. So why wait? Start your journey towards a safer home today with Matterport 3D scans and be ready for anything.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you document a home or business?
  • The photographer enters your home with a Matterport Pro 3 laser-guided camera.
  • The camera is positioned in every room throughout the house, including closets. At every position, the camera rotates 360 degrees, capturing everything it sees in the rotation.
  • In the kitchen, the photographer will capture shots with both open and closed cabinet doors. Since the kitchen is one of the most expensive rooms in the house, we want to document as much detail as possible.
  • The photographer will create a path through the home to all exterior exits.  Once the interior is completed, the exterior will be scanned.
  • All unobstructed portions of the exterior will be scanned.
How long does it take to scan a home?

The time needed to thoroughly scan a home’s interior varies based on size and shape. For an average 2,000-square-foot home, the process typically takes about one and a half hours, possibly extending to two hours when including the exteriors.

How should I prepare my home for a Matterport 3D scan?

First, it’s important to remember that your home isn’t being prepared for sale, so there’s no need to stress about getting it market-ready.

Here are some tips to help with the photography process:

          1. **Clear Pathways**: Ensure pathways are clear so the photographer can move easily from room to room.

          2. **Open Storage Areas**: Open all storage rooms and closets.

          3. **Showcase Valuables**: If you have valuable furniture, electronics, or other items, arrange them in a way that makes them visible. Notify the photographer about these items so they can position the camera accordingly.

          4. **Garage Preparation**: Clear a pathway in the garage to allow visibility of all four walls.

          5. **Exterior Check**: Prepare the exterior of your home so that the camera can capture the condition of the walls, pool, air conditioning unit, and pool pump.

          6. **Documentation**: Create a Word document or Excel sheet listing the names and serial numbers of electronics and other items. The photographer will upload this information to the 3D scan and the external console if purchased.

Following these steps can help ensure a smooth and effective photography session.

Do you scan the roof of a home or business?

If the owner chooses to have the roof photographed, the photographer will use a drone to capture images from all four quadrants: north, south, east, and west. The process is only feasible if no trees obstruct the drone’s flight path. No ladders or climbing onto roofs are permitted. The photographer will include photos of the roof in the 3D scan.

Do I need to have both the interior and exterior of my home or business scanned?

There is no need to examine the exterior of a home or business if you do not own or are not responsible for that property, such as in the case of condominiums, townhouses, or strip malls. However, if you are responsible for the property, your insurance company will want to evaluate the quality of the walls and surrounding areas. An exterior assessment will reveal everything that is visible and unobstructed.

What is considered to be the interior space of a house or business?

The interior encompasses all living space beneath the roof, including the garage. The square footage is obtained from the county’s property appraiser’s office website.

What is considered the exterior of the house or business?

Exterior refers to all outside property beyond the living space, including patios, pools, gardens, and front and back yards.

Will my insurance company pay for the Matterport scan of my house or business?

Request your insurance company to cover the cost of Matterport. However, each insurance provider has different rules regarding payouts for preventive measures. Our recommendation is to pay the fee upfront and then submit for reimbursement. At least, you will have documentation of your home.

My insurance company had me do a four-point inspection. Why do I need to have further documentation?

A four-point inspection is great. It certifies that you have running water, wind mitigation, a sound roof, and an AC/Heating system, but it does not account for your valuable contents.
